Share Your Story With Vision Magazine
We commission writers, photographers and specialists for every edition. Pitches are read by our editors, and we aim to reply to every one.
What Vision Looks For
A specific story, not a subject
“Housing policy” is a subject. “The council that reversed its own planning decision twice in eight months” is a story. We commission the second kind.
Access you already have
The strongest pitches come with a door already open — a person who will talk, a place you can get into, a dataset nobody has read properly.
A reason it is now
Not a news hook necessarily, but an answer to why this piece belongs in this edition rather than any other.
A view you can defend
We publish argument, but the argument has to survive the reporting. Tell us what would change your mind.

If your story genuinely does not fit any of these, pitch it anyway and tell us why.
Submission Guidelines
Six things that make a pitch easier to say yes to.
- 01Pitch in two or three paragraphs. If it needs more than that to explain, it usually needs more reporting first.
- 02Tell us the length you have in mind. Our features typically run between 1,500 and 4,000 words.
- 03Include one or two links to previous work. Unpublished writers are welcome — send the best thing you have written, published or not.
- 04Say what access you have and what you would still need. We would rather know upfront.
- 05We commission photography separately, but tell us if the story has a visual dimension you have already thought about.
- 06We aim to respond to every pitch. If you have not heard within three weeks, a polite nudge is entirely fair.
Contributor Opportunities
We work with people at every stage. A first commission is a real possibility.
Writers
Reported features, interviews, criticism and opinion across all ten desks. Commissioned per piece, with an editor assigned from the start.
Photographers
Commissioned reportage, portraiture and visual essays. We give photographers the same brief-and-edit process as writers.
Specialists
Practitioners with deep knowledge of a field who want to write about it properly. We will pair you with an editor who can help.
Translators & researchers
Support on stories that need language skills, archive work or sustained data research.
Pitch a Story
Two or three sentences is plenty. If it is right for us, we will come back with questions.
